Award winning Nigerian born Ngozi Chimamanda has berrated the erratic supply of electricity in Nigeria in the New York Times. In summary she says the quality of electricity is as poor as the supply. In her poetic ways, she says that "light bulbs dim like tired resentful candles". She continues by saying the light goes off and on and off and on again thereby causing sparks due essentially to the high and low voltage of electricity being supplied.
The generator has become her succour but she now has to buy diesel more than she buys food. Due to constant use of the generator it normally packs up.
Also using inverter as another means of supply meets a brick wall as the inverter is charged with electricity which is hardly supplied.
That Chimamanda captured the mind of Nigerians is an understatement. Epileptic supply of electricity in Nigeria has not only closed down many industries but made life a living hell for the masses.
