BOB HEWITT: SOUTH AFRICAN COURT JAILS FORMER TENNIS CHAMPION FOR RAPE

A former tennis champion, Australian born Bob Hewitt, 75, has been jailed by a South African court for raping underaged girls.
Bob Hewitt won nine grand slam doubles and six mixed doubles titles in the 1960s and 1970s.
Bob Hewitt faced two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The offences were said to have been committed in the 1980s and 1990s, when the Australian born tennis star was coaching South African women.
Following the allegations, Bob Hewitt's name was removed from the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012.
Bob Hewitt denied all the charges.
One victim during the trial said Bob Hewitt told her, "rape was enjoyable" while another said she was touched inapropriately by Bob and forced to perform sexual acts between the ages of 12 to 13.
Judge Bert Bam in giving judgement in a Johannesburg court said that the evidence against Bob Hewitt was overwhelming and the victims statements showed similar pattern of abuse by Bob giving the impression that the attacks were calculated.
Following the guilty verdicts, Bob Hewitt was remanded in custody.
