DO NOT ASK FOR FOREIGN CURRENCY FOR TRANSACTIONS DONE IN NIGERIA-CBN GOVERNOR

The Governor of the Central Bank  of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele on Tuesday issued a warning to schools, landlords and business enterprises against asking for foreign currencies in the settlement of transactions done within Nigeria.

This he said while briefing journalists at the end of a two day monetary policy committee meeting.

The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele re-emphasised that the official currency of the country is the naira and frowned at what he described as the " dollarization" of the economy.

The CBN Governor said they were going after businesses who do not conform to this policy.
