ECOWAS COMMENDS NIGERIA FOR A FREE AND FAIR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

The Head of Ecowas Observer Mission(EOM) and former President of Ghana, John Kuffour has expressed satisfaction with the commitment made by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), security agencies and political parties in ensuring a free and transparent election in Nigeria's presidential and national assembly elections held on Saturday, 28th March, 2015.

John Kuffour said he was impressed with the turnout of voters who displayed commendable level of discipline and patience.

The head of Ecowas Observer Mission said, "The process of counting at polling stations and the subsequent collations at designated centres were successful and in accordance with the Electoral Act. Some of the challenges the mission observed during the exercise included the late arrival of INEC officials in many polling stations and malfunctioning of Card readers across the country"
"Cases of attempt to snatch ballot papers were reported in some polling stations leading to instances of uproar, shootings and sporadic violence in affected polling stations. Despite efforts by relevant agencies to secure the electoral exercise, explosions were also recorded in some parts of the country"
