Traditionally the Vatican opposes military intervention to sort out issues of this nature but Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, Vatican's top diplomat at the United Nations in Geneva said that the Jihadists are committing genocide and needed to be stopped.
Archbishop Silvano Tomasi said in an interview with US Catholic website crux, that "What's needed is a co-ordinated and well -thought -out coalition to do everything possible to achieve a political settlement without violence"
"But if that's not possible, then the use of force will be necessary"
He continued, "we have to stop this kind of genocide . Otherwise we'll be crying out in the future about why we didn't do something, why we allowed such a terrible tragedy to happen".
Archbishop Silvano Tomasi said that any Coalition must be giuded by the United Nations and include countries from the Middle East.
You will recall that Pope Francis decried the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians by IS in Libya in February.
