CHINESE GIRLS CELEBRATING ADULTHOOD CREATE SOCIAL MEDIA BUZZ

In Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, girls perform hair-pinning, a part of an ancient ceremony of adulthood undertaken by female teenagers, wearing the Han costume.
30 girls aged 18 took part in the ceremony. They bowed to their parents and teachers to show they have become grown ups.
This is an old tradition which dates back to the ZHOU dynasty (1046-256BC). It marks the time when a girl is grown up and ready for marriage.
