EBOLA: EBOLA EPIDEMIC SUCKS $2.2 BILLION FROM ECONOMIES OF GUINEA, LIBERIA AND SIERRA LEONE-WORLD BANK


The World Bank has said on Friday that the Ebola epidemic that swept West Africa has cost the three most hit countries of  Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia a total estimated Gross Domestic Product (GDP) losses of $2.2billion.
$240 million for Liberia, $535 million for Guinea and $1.4billion for Sierra Leone.
Liberia is gradually returning to normalcy. Guinea's economy is stagnating while Sierra Leone is suffering severe recession.
The World Bank Group has announced on Friday that it will provide at least $650 million during the next 12 to 18 months to help Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone recover from the devastating social and economic impact of the Ebola crisis and advance their longer-term development needs.
With this new World Bank Group pledge, the  organizations total financing for Ebola response and recovery efforts to date is $1.62billion.
All amounts stated are US dollars.
