EBOLA: A NEW SINGLE DOSE OF EBOLA VACCINE SHOWS PROMISE

A team of researchers from University of Texas Medical branch at Galveston and Profectus Bioscience have developed a quick acting single dose Ebola vaccine which has been discovered to be effective in non human primate models. The results look promising for human trials.

Professor Thomas Geisbert of University of Texas Medical branch says the new vaccine may pave way for manufacturing and identifying safer ways to combat Ebola.

The West Africa Makona strain of Ebola has killed over 10,000 people.

The vaccine employs a virus that is not harmful to human vesicular stomatitis.

With a part of Ebola virus inserted into it, this vaccine immediately triggered an immune response against Ebola zaire.
