It's the first awareness day created by Advocates for Youths and Other Partners to recognise the impact of HIV/AIDS epidemic specifically on young people and also recognize the exceptional work being done by young people in the fight against HIV/AIDS epidemic.
The creation of NYHAAD is a step towards acknowledging and addressing the needs of young people in HIV and AIDS response.
Young activists in high schools, colleges and universities are to use this day to organize and educate about HIV and AIDS.
They will promote HIV testing and fight against stigma.
Today, young people between the ages of 13-29 account for 40% of all new cases.
