INEC SAYS IT CANNOT CANCEL RIVERS AND AKWA IBOM STATE RESULTS

The National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it does not have the power to cancel the results of the governorship and House of Assembly elections held in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.
INEC made the statement after the European Union Election Observers called for a probe of the 'severe'problems' that characterised the polls in the two states.
The Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Kayode Idowu said that the call to cancel the elections was being misdirected.
Kayode Idowu explained that once INEC has announced the election results, any grievances should be channelled through the election petition tribunals.
Idowu said, "The law does not allow us to cancel any result after it has been announced. Everyone knows this" "It is only the election petition tribunals that can order that or even cancel the elections. We would advice anyone who is aggrieved to go to court"
