Nigerian troops have rescued additional 160 more hostages mostly women and children from Sambisa forest, the stronghold of Boko Haram militants according to reports from AFP.
Nigerian army told AFP on Thursday,
"We are still working to verify the actual number of the rescued hostages but I can say they include around 60 women and 100 children" said Sani Usman, an army spokesman. Additional 160 hostages were freed in an operation involving troops from the army's 7th Division which is tasked with fighting Boko Haram, he said.
A female hostage and a soldier were killed during the rescue operation at Sambisa forest in the north eastern part of Nigeria.
The military said on Tuesday that it had rescued about 200 girls and 93 women from Boko Haram who were not Chibok girls.
Amnesty's Africa director for research and advocacy, Netsanet Belay has said the rescues call for celebration but cautioned that 'this is just a tip of the iceberg' as there are thousands more women and girls, men and boys held captive by the Boko Haram insurgents.
