FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OVER CONSTITUTION AMENDMENTS

According to Premium Times, the Federal Government of Nigeria has filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court against the Senate and House of Representatives to nullify proposed amendments to 1999 constitution.
The suit was filed because President Goodluck Jonathan didnot approve some amendments to some sections of the document sent to him by the National Assembly.
The controversial amendments come down to sections whittling down executive powers of the President and gives executive powers to the legislature and the judiciary.
President Jonathan has explained his reasons for disagreeing with the amendments,
"In view of the foregoing and absence of credible evidence that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Fourth Alteration) Act 2015 satisfied the strict requirements of section 9(3) of the 199 Constitution, it will be unconstitutional for me to assent to it" President Jonathan said.
" I therefore withhold my assent and accordingly remit Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Fourth Alteration) Act 2015 to the Senate/House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria"
The National Assembly has said that after 30 days, it will override the President's veto.
