XENOPHOBIA: NIGERIA OFFICIALLY RECALLS ITS SOUTH AFRICAN AMBASSADOR

Nigeria has officially recalled its High Commissioner to South Africa following xenophobic attacks on foreigners by South Africans which left seven people dead.
Three weeks ago Xenophobic attacks erupted in KwaZulu-Natal and spread to Gauteng.
Nigeria has recalled its acting High Commissioner to South Africa, Martin Cobham and the Deputy High Commissioner, Uche Ajulu-Okeke. This is the latest sign of many African Countries' discontent at South Africa's handling of the attacks on foreign immigrants.
The Senate wants the High Commissioner to return and consult with the National Assembly on the current situation as well as the measures taken to protect the properties and lives of Nigerians living in South Africa.
The action of recalling the High Commissioner outside of cutting diplomatic ties with South Africa represents the strongest form of protest according to Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Yesterday, Nigeria asked South Africa for compensations for victims of xenophobic attacks.
The South African High Commissioner in Nigeria, Lulu Mnguni said he is presently in consultation with Foreign Affairs department following the request.
