Baltimore's top prosecutor on Friday announced criminal charges against the six police officers who have been suspended after Freddie Gray suffered a fatal spinal injury in police custody.
Freddie Gray's burial caused huge protests which resulted in declaration of state of emergency by the Mayor of the city.
State's Attorney, Marilyn J. Mosby announced the stiffest charge, of second degree depraved murder against the driver of the police van, Officer Caesar R. Goodson Jr. who failed at least 5 times to seatbelt Freddie Gray in the transport vehicle, an offence that carries a potential 30 year sentence while other officers face charges of involuntary manslaughter, assault and illegal arrest.
Officers charged include, Lt. Brian W. Rice, 41, Officer Garrett E. Miller,26, Officer Edward M. Nero,29, Officer William G. Porter,25, Sgt. Alicia D. White,30.
Freddie Gray was found with a knife clipped to the inside of his pants pocket, a knife that is lawful under Maryland law and as such Freddie Gray didnot commit any crime and was illegally arrested by the police officers.
