
The president had already been sentenced to 20 years in prison for ordering the torture and arrest of protesters during his reign.
Morsi was deposed by the military in July 2013 following mass street protest against his rule.
The authorities have since banned his Muslim Brotherhood Movement and arrested and convicted thousands of his supporters.
The sentence would first be sent to the Grand Mufti, Egypt's highest religious authority whose approval would be gotten on whether the conviction should stand or not.
The sentence is open to appeal even with the Grand Mufti's approval.
