PATIENCE JONATHAN DENIES CLAIMS SHE IS BLOCKING BUHARI'S WIFE

The wife of the President of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan has denied blocking the President-elect's wife, Aisha Buhari from hosting the 8th summit of the African First Ladies Peace Mission as reported by several media houses. The summit is to hold on Friday and new executive members are to emerge.
First Lady, Patience Jonathan is currently the President of the mission and with election of members being conducted on Friday, the President-elect's wife will not have the opportunity to be elected as the President-elect, Buhari will be sworn in on May, 29th as adduced by several media houses.
Media reports had it that the election would have been held in July but Patience Jonathan brought it back to May to allow her successor emerge before her husband ceases to be the President.
Mr Ayo Adewuyi speaking on behalf of the First Lady, Patience Jonathan has denied the reports. Mr Ayo Adewuyi explained that Patience was elected President of the mission in July 2012 for a two year tenure according to the group's internal regulation. Her tenure according to him is supposed to end in 2014 but due to the elections that were coming up in Nigeria, the first lady notified the group that she would not be available to host the summit. Mrs Jonathan proposed the summit be held after the general elections in Nigeria and July 2015 was agreed by the group. However, there was an understanding among the group that if President Jonathan didnot win the presidential elections,  Mrs Jonathan should convene the summit in May to enable the election of a new President and for smooth handover since her tenure had long ended.
Mr. Ayo Adewuyi's statement read in part,
"We state therefore without any iota of equivocation that it is mischievous for anyone to scheme to cause disaffection between the outgoing and incoming First Ladies, Dame Patience Jonathan and Hajia Aisha Buhari.
"Let us therefore come together in our tradition of hospitality to heartily welcome our guests, the African First Ladies, as they arrive Abuja for the 8th Summit of the mission.
"Let us always remember that the personal ambition of anybody is not worth destroying the image of the nation".
