EBOLA: GHANA SUSPENDS EBOLA VACCINE TRIAL

Ghana has suspended a trial of an ebola vaccine after several complaints that the locals were being used as 'guinea pigs' in a country currently free and not threatened by the deadly virus.
Ghana had agreed to join other countries in hosting trials to test the safety and efficacy of two experimental vaccines against Ebola which had killed over 11,000 people in West Africa.
It started Phase 1 safety tests on one vaccine developed by United States pharmaceutical giant, Johnson and Johnson and Denmarks, Bavarian Nordic in the south eastern Volta region, giving the volunteers a mobile phone and 20 cedis ($4,7).
With a lot of opposition to the trial, Health Minister, Alex Segbefia suspended the tests.
Leaders of the ruling National Democratic Congress in the Volta region have said the trial was a needless experiment as they have cases of Malaria, Cholera, HIV/AIDS among others and need vaccines for them.
They wondered why a country that is not threatened by Ebola should risk the lives of its citizens for an unnecessary experiment.
