HIV: FOUR PEOPLE ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES LINKED TO INDIANA HIV OUTBREAK


According to local and federal authorities, four suspects accused of distributing a painkiller leading to the largest outbreak in Indiana have been arrested.

Michael Elkins of Catersville , Georgia was arrested along with John Morgan on June 16 in Clark County and when police searched their truck, they found 4 ounces of methamphethamine, 19 opana pills and an assault rifle.
Officials say Elkins travelled to Scott County several  times over the last eight months to distribute methamphetamine .
Indiana officials say needle sharing among people infected, injecting liquefied form of opana and other drugs has resulted in the HIV outbreak in Southern Indiana.
At least 170 people have tested positive for HIV this year in the region mostly Scott County which usually saw about 5 new cases  a year previously.
2 suspected couriers, Tyler Turner and William Thrower were arrested 4 days later in the county with both half pound of Meth.
All four are being held in the Clark County jail on drug charges and $50,000 cash bond.
