MERS: WHO DESCRIBES SOUTH KOREA'S MERS VIRUS OUTBREAK AS 'LARGE AND COMPLEX'

A team of World Health Organisation (WHO) experts have said on Saturday, that South Korea's outbreak of the deadly MERS virus is 'large and complex' and more cases should be expected.
Both South Korea 's health authorities and WHO have done a joint mission to review the outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), the largest outside of Saudi Arabia.138 confirmed cases have been reported as at Saturday. The first case was diagnosed on May 20.
South Korea has on Saturday reported the 14th death and 12  new cases which includes an ambulance driver who transported an infected patient.
WHO's Assistant Director-General for Health Security, Keiji Fukuda has told journalists that the outbreak is large and complex as such the government should remain vigilant and continue intensified disease surveillance  and prevention measures until the outbreak is over. He praised South Korea authorities for their strong tracing, monitoring and quarantine measures as well as expanded laboratory diagnostic testing.
