The patients who died were a 50 year old woman who had an underlying health condition and a 70 year old man.
The number of cases remained 186 as at July 8th.
In other developments, World Health Organisation (WHO) has shared some details about the case reported in the Phillipines.
The patient is a 36 year old man from Finland who had cough before travelling to Saudi Arabia between June 10 and June18. He was not sick during his stay in Saudi Arabia.
On June 18th he left Saudi Arabia and stayed one night in United Arab Emirates (UAE) before arriving Manila, Phillipines the next day. He stayed three days in Manila and then travelled to Malaysia, Singapore before going back to Manila on June 25 while asymptomatic. He came down with fever and cough on July 2nd and visited a hospital where his specimens were taken.
The next day, he returned to the hospital for test results but it was closed. He sought care in another hospital. After testing positive to MERS on July 4th, he was taken by ambulance to a third hospital where he was isolated and is in stable condition.
Phillipines authorities are tracing his contacts including passengers on flight from Singapore to Manila. Investigations are underway into possible exposure in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
