NIGERIA: FORMER AVIATION MINISTER FANI KAYODE ACQUITTED OF MONEY LAUNDERING CHARGES

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode was on Wednesday acquitted and discharged by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos from money laundering charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Delivering her judgement, the Presiding judge, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia said that EFCC had failed to provide solid proof that linked Fani-Kayode to money laundering and that the case brought before her was feeble.
Fani Kayode was accused of laundering about 100 million naira  in 2008 while he was Minister of Culture and Tourism. The money was later reduced to 2.1 million naira in 2014 after the court dismissed 38 of the 40 count charges levelled against him.
