Ekweremadu according to the PDP Spokesman is expected to appear on Monday, 6th July before a team of investigators at the Force Headquarters Abuja.
A letter inviting the Senate Deputy President was signed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of criminal investigations at the Force Headquarters and dated July I, 2015.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh announced this in a press briefing on Sunday in Abuja.
The Force Headquarters through its Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Shogunle has however explained that the investigation is not about an individual but that the police was investigating a petition by a Senator alleging forgery of Senate rules and Standing orders.
Shogunle said,
"In line with the resolve of the police leadership to gather evidence, the FCID sent a letter to the Senate Clerk requesting a meeting with principal officers. The police didn't send a letter to the Deputy Senate President but to the clerk".
"What we did was to write to the clerk to facilitate a meeting with some of the senators to verify the allegations that were made. The police have respect for democratic values, but the clerk is yet to respond to the letter"
"No invitation was sent to the Deputy Senate President. It's not about an individual, but about those that should be in the know of the Senate rules and Standing orders. The investigation is being led by the DIG, FCID".
The 'forged rule' is said to have been used for the election of the leadership of the 8th Senate where Bukola Saraki and Ekweremadu emerged as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.
However PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh said that the invitation was a ploy by the ruling party, APC to get the Deputy Senate President detained since they have not been happy at his emergence as the Deputy Senate President.
While Bukola Saraki, the Senate President belongs to APC the Deputy Senate Leader, Ike Ekweremadu belongs to the opposition party, PDP (Peoples Democratic Party).
