EBOLA: rVSV-ZEBOV VACCINE'S SUCCESS DESCRIBED AS REMARKABLE AND GAME CHANGING

World Health Organisation expert, Marie Paule Kieny has told reporters in a briefing on Friday from Geneva that the world is on the verge of an efficacious Ebola vaccine.
Initial results from the trial of Mersk and Newlink Genetics rVSV-ZEBOV vaccine on 4000 people who had been in close contact with confirmed Ebola case showed complete protection after 10 days.
Global Health specialists have described the results as remarkable and game changing.
The vaccine could now help to end the outbreak of Ebola which has killed more than 11,200 since December 2013.
The results of the trial of the vaccine is published online in a medical journal, The Lancet.
The Gavi Alliance which buys vaccines in bulk for poor countries said it would purchase once it is approved.
