The Central Bank of Nigeria had given directive to banks to publish the name of chronic debtors of banks in order to expose and shame them.
In the advertisement published by the bank in the national daily, Abike Dabiri-Erewa and a company identified as Thriller Endeavours were said to be owing a chronic debt of 122million naira.
Abike Dabiri on seeing the publication, tweeted that she had no knowledge of the company the bank was associating her name with. In order to clear her name Abike resorted to the law courts.
Tweeting via her twitter handle, @abikedabiri; she wrote "Just finished filing a suit against Diamond bank and Punch for labeling me a debtor. To claim damages, a retraction and an apology".
