Oscar Pistorius is set to be released from prison on Friday, 21st August to resume house arrest after spending ten months of a five year prison sentence in line with South Africa's custodial guidelines for non-dangerous prisoners. Oscar started his five year sentence in October 2014 but South African prison officials recommended Pistorius be released after 10 months in prison to begin house arrest.
Prosecutors however believe that a verdict of murder was supposed to have been passed in Oscar's case against manslaughter.
Oscar Pistorius admitted killing his girlfriend Reeva by firing four shots into the locked toilet cubicle she was in but he says he thought it was an intruder.
Judge Thokozile Masipa in sentencing Oscar to five years imprisonment said the prosecution failed to prove without any doubt that Oscar intended to kill his girlfriend when he fired those shots.
National Prosecuting Authority Spokesman, Luvuyo Mfaku said, "We filed the appeal today".
Mfaku further said that Oscar Pistorius' legal team has one month to respond to the appeal which the Supreme Court is expected to hear in November.
