The news of his death was broken on Tuesday via twitter by Ovation magazine publisher, Chief Dele Momodu. He wrote,
"Nigeria, and indeed Africa has just lost one of its greatest sons; AMBASSADOR CHIEF ANTONIO DEINDE FERNANDEZ is gone!".
