Javier was fined 815,000 pounds and sentenced to one year imprisonment on two counts of financial crimes committed in 2011 and 2012.
Mascherano had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges, paid the amount owed and a hefty fine as recompense.
It is expected that Mascherano will serve no prison sentence and his custodial sentence suspended in exchange for a further fine in line with his wish and that of his lawyer, David Aineto.
Mascherano released a statement on Thursday part of which reads,
"I'm a professional sportsman and I don't know a lot about legal and financial matters".
