The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris has asked Lagos State residents to be calm over the presence of a patient with Lassa fever in Lagos.
He however asked all residents to maintain a high level of personal hygiene and cleanliness.
Speaking to journalists at Alausa Secretariat on the first case reported in Lagos, Dr. Jide Idris said that 92 persons who came in contact with index case are being monitored. The index case, a 25 year old male student of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Kaduna fell ill in Lagos and was taken to Ahmmadiyyah Hospital, Ojokoro on January 9 with complaint of fever, sore throat and difficulty in swallowing. He was on admission there for six days before he was transferred to Lagos Teaching Hospital owing to the fact that the fever was persitent and his condition was not improving.
He was confirmed as a Lassa Fever patient on January 2016. 16 patients who were admitted with the index case together with 25 health workers as well as other contacts have been placed on compulsory 21 days monitoring and their phone numbers and adresses have been collated for proper tracking.
