Chief Tony Anenih, the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the opposition party in Nigeria, PDP has written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) giving reasons why he will not be able to return the 260 millionnaira allegedly paid him from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
The veteran politician maintains he made a total of 440 million naira personal expenses for the re-election of former President Goodluck Jonathan and was only refunded the sum of 260 million naira leaving a bad debt of 180 million naira.
Anenih also explained that he only provided details of his account number with which he was to be refunded and was not in a position to ask the former president how he was to source the money or through which office the refund was going to be made.
Anenih contends that he was not a direct beneficiary of the sum of 260million naira. The sum was a refund for expenses he made at the former president's instructions.
According to Anenih, 63 million naira was disbursed to a northern group led by elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai for mobilisation and post election peace advocacy in that part of the country.
100 million naira was given to Chief Olu Falae, the National Chairman of SDP to mobilise support for PDP during the presidential elections since SDP had no presidential candidate.
100 million was also given to the leader of ACCORD party, Senator Rashidi Ladoja to mobilise support for PDP.
Other out-of-pocket expenses included 25 million naira to former Deputy Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Muktari Shagari, 35 million naira to a delegation of Local Government leaders from Katsina State.
Falae, Ladoja and Yakassai have confirmed receiving the said amounts.
Anenih, throwing light on his exit as the Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees said despite his selfless effort he was pressured to resign on trumped-up charges of anti- party activities.
