WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION WARNS THAT ZIKA VIRUS IS LIKELY TO SPREAD ACROSS THE AMERICAS

World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that the Zika virus which causes symptoms including mild fever, conjunctivitis and headaches is likely to spread across nearly all the Americas.
The infection has already been found in 21 countries in the Carribean, North and South America and is the cause of babies being born with underdeveloped brains.

No treatment or vaccine is currently available.

The virus started spreading in the Americas in May 2015 in Brazil.

The lack of natural immunity in the Americas is thought to be the reason the infection is spreading rapidly.

Zika virus is transmitted with the bite of Aedes mosquitoes seen in all of Americas except Canada and Chile.
