The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has inaugurated the committee for Lagos at 50 celebrations and has made Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka and Rasheed Gbadamosi as the Chairmen of the committee.
Lagos State will be 50 next year having been created in May 27, 1967 and Ambode says it is an important landmark for any individual, institution or state to attain 50 years.
Lagos State is the commercial capital of Nigeria and the most cosmopolitan state in the country where every tribe, race, creed reside and has an excellent record of religious tolerance, Ambode said.
In celebrating Lagos, the arts and cultural heritage, sights and sounds of Lagos must be showcased. It was in this light that he set up a distinguished committee headed by Wole Soyinka which he co-chairman's with Raheed Gbadamosi to see to the celebration of Lagos at 50 come next year.
Other members of the committee include Chief Olawale Cole, Sarah Boulous, Mrs Abimbola Obafunwa, Prof. Senapon Bakare, Mrs Chika Balogun, Folarin Coker, Prof. Ademola Abass, Bolanle Austen-Peters, Olufunmilayo Balogun who acts as the secretary.
