President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia has confirmed on live television that 25,645 people in Colombia are infected with the Zika virus.
Colombia has reported that about 3,100 pregnant women have been infected with Zika virus but the country is yet to record any cases of microcephaly.
Colombia's announcement came as Brazil was cautioning women on kissing strangers, sharing cutlery and plates amidst fears that the zika virus can be transmitted through saliva.
President Santos said that Colombia is likely to end up with about 600,000 cases and the country will do everything possible to fight mosquitoes across the country through fumigation as well as helping families rid their homes of stagnant water.
President Santos informed that there are likely 1,000 cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome, a serious condition that can cause paralysis and has been linked to Zika Virus.
