Health officials in Guinea on Wednesday said seven people have died from Ebola virus following the re-surgence of Ebola in Guinea as World Health Organisation, WHO on Tuesday announced that Ebola outbreak in West Africa no longer constituted an International emergency.
Guinea is a country where polygamy is commonly practised. The Guinean authorities had two weeks ago announced the death of a man, his two wives and his daughter and yesterday announced the passing away of the man's third wife and his mother-in-law who contracted the disease. This makes it 6 deaths from this family.
This family came from the village of Koropara.
Also outside this family, a man from the city of Nzerekore died on March 22 after testing positive to the deadly Ebola virus.
Two cases, one confirmed, one suspected are currently receiving treatment in a dedicated facility not far from the border with Liberia who are not taking chances as they have closed their border with Guinea.
Fode Tass Sylla, Spokesman for Guinea's Ebola response unit said that as at March 30th, "there are nine registered cases and seven deaths; three suspected and four confirmed".
One of the newly confirmed cases was "closely related to the virus that circulated in south-eastern Guinea in November 2014", according to a statement released by WHO on Wednesday.
It is believed that there were many unreported deaths from Ebola infection which is causing these flare ups and more infections are likely due to the large number of contacts.
