NIGERIA: ONDO ASSEMBLY IMPEACHES ITS FIRST FEMALE SPEAKER AND HER DEPUTY

The Ondo State House of Assembly has impeached its first female speaker, Mrs Jumoke Akindele and her Deputy, Mr. Fatai Olotu.
The lawmakers have subsequently elected Hon. Iroju Ogundeji from Odigbo Local Government as Speaker and Hon. Ayo Arowele from Owo Local Government as the Deputy.

18  out of 26 lawmakers are said to have appended their signature on the notice of impeachment.

The impeachment was carried out around 10pm at one of the lawmaker's quarters on Tuesday.

The reasons for Akindele and her deputy's impeachment are yet unknown.
