POPULAR CONGOLESE STAR, PAPA WEMBA DIES ON STAGE IN ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST

Popular Congolese star, Jules Shungu Webadio popularly known as Papa Wemba, 66, has died while performing on stage at the Festival des Musiques Urbaines d'Anoumabo (FEMUA) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in the early hours of today, Sunday, 24th April, 2016.
Papa Wemba slumped on stage unfortunately his dancers continued performing not realising that he had collapsed.

Papa Wemba made his entrance in Africa music scene in 1969 and quickly became popular due to his type of music known as Soukou rock music or rumba rock.

Papa Wemba was also responsible for the emergence of a cult movement known as Sapeurs whose members, young men spend a lot of money on designer clothes.

Papa Wemba was one of Africa's most popular as he released hits upon hits.

Papa Wemba speent sometime in prison in Europe following conviction in a racket where illegal immigrants were brought into Europe as members of his band.
