EBOLA: AMAZING NEWS, "EBOLA PROOF" TABLET DEVICE DEVELOPED

Ebola proof tablet device which can be doused in chlorine has been designed by technology volunteers and Google.

This is to help medics who at the height of the ebola epidemic had to shout across fences patients notes in order to avoid being contaminated.

Medecins San Frontieres had earlier put out a call asking for technologists to help develop Ebola-proof tablet.

Ebola virus is very infectious, medics caring for ebola patients have to wear full protective gears to avoid contamination.

After a tiring day of caring for ebola infected patients, shouting patients notes across the fence is a ticking time bomb for errors.

To overcome these challenges, International tech volunteers including Pim de Witte of Whitespell and Daniel Cunningham at Hack4Good who were later joined by Google came together to device the "Ebola Proof" tablet which has waterproof casing at "industrial level"  according to Ivan Gayton, technology advisor at MSF and can be dunked in 0.5% chlorine solution which kills Ebola.

The 'Ebola Proof' tablet is charged wirelessly and quickly by placing it on the table and is connected to a tiny local network server, the size of a postage stamp.

The device is used by health workers to track patients progress like conparing temperature and so on and has been tested at MSF treatment centres in Sierra Leone.

The device faces some challenges among which is steady electricity supply.

Ganesh Shankar, Product Manager at Google said, " I think this kind of partnership represents the future of how non-governmental organisations are going to integrate technology into the work they do"
