Two new viruses have been discovered by Nigerian Scientists in Nigeria together with their United States counterparts.
The team of scientists was led by Dr. Christian Happi who is the Director of African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases, Redeemer's University, Mowe, Ogun State.

The viruses currently have not been confirmed to pose any threat to the Nigerian populace.
The Director, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Abuja, Professor Abdulsalami Nasidi calls the discovery a major breakthrough for Nigerian scientists.
The team of scientists who discovered the two viruses have named them, "Ekpoma virus-1" (EKV-1) and "Ekpoma Virus -2" (EKV-2)
