Some card readers at the polling booths in Nigeria in Saturday's Presidential elections are failing despite being new.
Investigations reveal that in some polling booths, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials are not well educated on its use.
A citizen recounted his ordeal at a polling booth where he could not be accredited as the card reader refused to function despite being new. Determined to vote, the individual involved approached the INEC official incharge and asked to inspect the card reader which he was obliged. On a closer look he found out that the protective film on the lense of the reader had not been removed.
After a lot of argument, he was able to convince the INEC official to remove it and the card reader began to read fast and even read prior rejected cards.
