NIGERIANS GO TO THE POLLS TODAY

Nigerians have gone to the polls to elect the president of their choice who will lead the country in the next four years. The National Assembly elections are also taking place today.

The major contenders in the Presidential elections are the incumbent president, President Goodluck Jonathan who is seeking re-election as the presidential candidate of People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Muhammadu Buhari , the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Today's election is expected to be very closely fought, set against a background of violence from Islamic militants, Boko Haram.
The two main presidential candidates have signed a peace accord to prevent violence before, during and after the elections.

President Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari have returned to their home states of Bayelsa State and Katsina states respectively to cast their votes.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has been ruling Nigeria since 1999. It is yet to be seen whether Nigerians will vote for change or not.
