PRESIDENT OF SIERRA LEONE SACKS DEPUTY FOR SEEKING ASYLUM IN UNITED STATES EMBASSY

The President of Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma has dismissed his deputy , Samuel Sam-Sumana for seeking asylum in United States embassy according to a statement from the president's office.
The President said his deputy has abandoned his duties as the Vice President  by seeking refuge from a foreign embassy and that he will appoint a new deputy.
The Vice President, Samuel Sam-Sumana who we had previously reported that he voluntarily quarantined himself for 21 days following the death of his bodyguard who contracted the Ebola virus had said on Saturday that he will continue to be in hiding due to security fears and that he is seeking asylum from the United States embassy.
The President, Ernest Bai Koroma said the Vice President does not belong to any party anymore and as such does not hold the necessary requirement to hold a political office.
Meanwhile, the Vice President, Samuel Sam-Sumana said he was shocked at the President's decision to relieve him of his position as the Vice President and that he will contest the decision in the Supreme Court since according to him the President does not have the power to do so.
Sam-Sumana, the Vice President had been accused earlier of lying about his academic qualifications and his muslim faith, charges he has denied.
