EBOLA: CANADA PREPARES FOR EBOLA

Preparations have been made at all levels in Canada to deal with the potential danger of an Ebola outbreak.

35 Canadian hospitals have been designated Ebola virus hospitals-two in Newfoundland, two in Nova Scotia, two in New Brunswick, two in Quebec, eleven in Ontario, one in Manitoba, two in Saskatchewan, four in Alberta and nine in British Collumbia.

Last August, Public Health Ontario issued information on preparing for Ebola danger. This included risk assessment and measures for infection prevention and control.
100 percent of staff in the emergency department, ICU, laboratory and environmental services were trained in additional personal protective equipment required to care for a patient with Ebola.

Ontario hospitals were categorized into 3 tier framework . Category 1 is a treatment facility, Category 2 is a testing centre and Category 3 is a screening hospital that immediately transfers suspected Ebola patients to Category 1 or 2.

There have been no confirmed cases of Ebola in Canada, though patients have been isolated and tested in recent months.
