TURKEY UNBLOCKS TWITTER AND YOUTUBE

Turkey has unblocked Twitter  and YouTube after the sites complied with an Istanbul court order to remove the images of of an Istanbul prosecutor, Mehmet Selim Kiraz held at gunpoint by the far-left militants.

Mehmet Selim Kiraz late died from his wounds after security forces stormed the office where he was held on a rescue mission.

The ban on the social media sites came despite a constitutional court ruling last year against such blanket bans.

The crackdown had followed a court ruling on Friday against 166 internet addresses including Twitter, YouTube and Facebook that had published images of the Istanbul prosecutor held at gun point.

Twitter and Facebook said they will appeal the decision to block their sites though they complied with the removal of the images. The government of Turkey had viewed posting of the image as promoting terrorist activities.
