Malaysia becomes the first country to announce it will search for migrants in desperate need of help instead of waiting for them to wash up on the shores.
Malaysian Prime Minister addressed this via twitter saying it had ordered the navy and coast guard 'to conduct search and rescue efforts for Rohingya boats. We have to prevent loss of life!'.
Malaysia navy chief, Abdul Aziz Jaafar says 4 vessels have been deployed and will render assistance if they see any migrant boats. Three helipcopters and three other naval boats are on standby and will be deployed if necessary.
The migrants comprise Rohingya muslims fleeing persecution and Bangladeshis trying to escape poverty.
The State Department in Washington through its Spokeswoman, Marie Harf has also said on Wednesday that United States was willing to take Rohingya refugees as part of International efforts to cope with the crisis.
