BURUNDI: AFRICAN UNION TO SEND 50 MEMBER OBSERVER MISSION TO ASSESS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

The African Union will soon send a 50 member observer mission to Burundi to assess the presidential election slated for July 15.
African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security, Smail Chergui said this on Monday in Johannesburg while speaking to the media.
He said the mandate of the observer team in Burundi will include ensuring that there is a condusive environment for the election to take place and to promote peace and dialogue among political parties.
Chergui said,
"We have received a positive response from the government to observe and promote peace and dialogue. Conditions for conducive elections in Burundi will include respect for human rights, free movement of people and the media among others".
The African Union has ended its three day summit which was held in South Africa.
