EBOLA: PUBLIC AWARENESS AND SENSITISATION CAMPAIGN OPENS ON EBOLA VACCINE TRIALS IN GHANA

The government of Ghana had agreed with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other stakeholders to commence Ebola vaccine  trials in Hohoe in the Volta region  but this met stiff opposition from pressure groups who thought the trial was unnecessary in a country who had no case of Ebola and that the disease could spread in Ghana.
As a result the Health Minister, Alex Segbefia ordered the exercise to be suspended as parliament summoned him to explain the exercise.
However, a widely publicised sensitization forum of the Ebola vaccine trial has begun in Ghana. Officials of the Food and Drugs Authority, Ghana Health Service  and scientists have been speaking  at the forum which began in Accra, then kintampo and later Navrongo.
The Volta region also has been selected to benefit from the sensitization  program.
Officials have explained the exercise is not harmful.
