GERMANY: ROBOT KILLS AUTOMAKER IN VOLKSWAGEN PLANT

A 22-year old man has been killed by a robot programmed by Volkswagen auto manufacturing company to manipulate car parts.
According to Volkswagen Spokesman, Heiko Hillwig, the man was killed in Volkswagen's production plant in Baunatal, about 100 kilometres north of Frankfurt, Germany.
The 22 year old man was part of the team that was setting up the robot when it grabbed and crushed him against a metal plate.
Hillwig said initial conclusions indicate that human error was to blame for the accident.
The robots are usually programmed to perform various tasks in the assembly process and operates within a confined area at the plants, grabbing auto parts and manipulating them.
