Lewis secured his 51st pole and second of this season for Mercedes with the fastest lap ever at Bahrain International circuit.
After three practices and Lewis failed to top the times, he found the pace he needed in the final minutes to edge out his teammate Nico Rosberg who had no answer for his speed as he outpaced him by just 0.077 seconds.
Lewis said about taking the pole,
"It's obviously not been a smooth weekend in terms of pace for me- and Nico (Rosberg) has been right on it-but I was able to put a lap together, my best of the weekend and it mattered for me at just the right time".
Lewis Hamilton's lap of one minute and 29.493 seconds is the fastest lap ever recorded in practice at Bahrain Grand Prix and it rescued Lewis from an earlier error that marred his first fast lap in Q3.
Lewis was summoned in the evening to the stewards after he reversed his car in the pit lane thereby breaching the rules. Fortunately for Lewis he came out with only a reprimand and kept his pole position.
"It was fun and yeah it was a sexy lap", Lewis said.
"I knew I had to do it and I was so happy when I came across the line"
"I knew I had to do it after that mistake. I knew it was a good lap and all weekend I had finished my lap and he went quicker so it felt good this time"
"It means a lot and surprisingly after 23 years in racing, which is a long time, it felt just like my first pole. I was so excited I nearly lost my voice-it's like scoring a goal!" Lewis added.
Nico Rosberg said he had been certain he had taken the pole before Lewis produced the lap that beat him with a blink of an eye. Nico however said taking pole is not that important in Bahrain GP.
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel came third while teammate Kimi Raikonnen came fourth ahead of Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa in that order.
The main race holds tommorrow, Sunday, 3rd April.
We hope Lewis wins this time!!! Team LH!!!
