NIGERIA: SARAKI'S TRIAL TAKES A NEW TURN AS SENATE SUMMONS CCT CHAIRMAN, UMAR DANLADI

Senate President, Bukola Saraki's trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has taken a new turn as the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Umar Danladi has been summoned by the Senate Committee on Ethics over allegations of corruption.
Justice Umar Danladi had ruled on Monday that Saraki's trial will be done on a daily basis henceforth until the case was done with and to expedite the trial.

A letter signed by the clerk of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Freedom Odolo on Monday summoned Justice Umar Danladi to appear before the Ethics Committee unfailingly by 2pm on Thursday.

Justice Umar however replied the Committee that he has a court sitting on Thursday and throughout the week and would not be available until after the court sitings which is on Saraki's trial.

Some Senators see Justice Umar's ruling to conduct Saraki's trial on a daily basis from 9am to 6pm as an attempt to deny Saraki any opportunity to preside over the plenary sessions of the Senate throughout the trial as a result they have revisited an outstanding allegation of corruption levelled against Justice Umar Danladi.

The battle line is said to be drawn between the Senate and the CCT Chairman.

We will be watching how this plays out.
